Fly, Cher Ami, Fly
This painting is from my next book, which is due to hit stores in the fall. It is titled Fly, Cher Ami, Fly from Abrams. The story is based on a true story of a carrier pidgeon during World War I, who saved the lives of 200 people, by delivering a message. It was an incredibly challenging to illustrate a story that takes place in the middle of a war, in a way that is appropriate for children. I tried to bring a sense of atmosphere, so that the viewers could feel the emotions of fear and horror on a battelfield, without showing every graphic detail. It was a great project to work on and the story was beautifully written. At the time I took on this project, I was completely overbooked. However when I read the manuscript, I knew I had to do this story. Keep your eyes open for Fly, Cher Ami, Fly.
